I tried Dxtory for awhile but kept having audio sync issues. While the quality of recording is great with Fraps, the file size is huge and the performance hit can be significant. It's very nice to be able to record w/the ability to adjust audio levels after recording. The major problem is that, last I used it, you could not record game and audio commentary to 2 separate tracks. To me, Fraps is now the worst of the bunch. I've mostly used Fraps and Bandicam, but did try Dxtory for awhile. So, is DXtory > FRAPS > Bandicam? I know that you can record with DXtory using the FRAPS codec, is that something that you would recommend? If so, is there a significant performance hit when compared to FRAPS? They can be daunting for newbies, but I actually found them quite useful. I do like the fact that you have a lot more options to customize your videos.

Unfortunately with FRAPS, I can only record at the full resolution (1440p) or half (720p).Įnter DXtory, I tried the trial version and found the quality to be on par if not better than FRAPS.

#BANDICAM REDDIT PLUS#

That is actually a big plus for me as I game at 1440p but want to record at 1080p. I love the fact that I can customize the video size in Bandicam. FRAPS, on the other hand produces great quality on the files but the files are much bigger than those of Bandicam. The thing I cannot figure out for the life of me is why my game play and videos end up choppy and/or laggy. Now, I like Bandicam because the files are small and the quality is decent. Yes, I'm a grown man who has baths on the daily. So, I'm getting into LPs and my current two methods of recording are FRAPS and occasionally I will use Bandicam. However like I said, these two will impact in game performance fairly significantly.Įdit: forgot to say I haven't used dxtory but it would also have CPU and performance impacts, much like fraps or bandicam would and less impact than OBS or xsplit. Super duper high quality captures at constant frame rates (I think).

  • never used bandicam but it's probably the same as fraps.
  • Don't need to mash em and sync em later in an NLE
  • easy to overlay a cam on it and just press go.
  • To me, the other benefits outweigh this one. So if you use an NLE that has issues with variable framerates you may need to re encode it using handbrake.

The only one I can think of is that it doesn't seem to record in CFR. Shadowplay can grab the last 20 minutes of gameplay if I forgot to hit record. Because of this, without a dedicated computer running OBS and capturing your primary computer the quality will be low (in comparison to shadowplay or fraps/bandicam) OBS and xsplit is super CPU heavy, especially if recording 1080p. OBS and xsplit would be the highest impact.

As opposed to a software option that is using your CPU. Shadowplay is simply the least impact on performance due to it using the GPU's rendering architecture during gameplay.

I find a 30 Mbps 1080p 60 fps capture looks great and a few hours of footage is only ~16-20 GB The lossless recording from fraps is unnecessary because it's going on YouTube and will be compressed like crazy regardless.

My PC is pretty good (custom gaming rig) but it's certainly not the best. But external terabyte hard drives are so cheap nowadays it's not hard to transfer the clip when it's uploaded to an external.Īlso, I believe it requires a half decent PC to run at HD capture levels, or so I've been told. Roughly speaking, a 30-35 minute Let's Play episode (parts 1 & 2) for me is about 2.5 Gigabytes. I swear the file size is less than what FRAPS puts out but that may be an issue with recording in full HD. pity X-split won't let me do it! And because I don't have to mess around with any other recording program! =] I love it because I've never thought, I wish I could do this. I love it because it's easy to use, has advanced settings, has never crashed for me once, has always recorded 1440p 60 fps HD clips and anything below & has an additional sister program called broadcaster (rather than game-caster) which does the same thing for recording desktop & windowed games. (Using this as a metaphorical example) Although ironically x-split can cut & edit clips in a quick open program which is awesome for cutting down on file size for those with a small hard-drive space! Also it's never let me down for Twitch streaming & recording at the same time in HD! It's like a video editing program that lets you make videos straight away and when you realize you want to do more than cut & edit clips it has all that great stuff Sony Vegas has but without the massive learning curve. Simple design with every advanced option you could really need built in.
